Our History

Richmond Primary School has been an important part of the local community since opening in 1898. Originally surrounded by farming land and welcoming 172 students, the school has grown and evolved alongside the changing Richmond community for more than 125 years.

Throughout its history, Richmond Primary School has remained committed to providing a welcoming, inclusive and supportive environment for children and families. Generations of students have learned, grown and built lifelong connections within our school community, creating a strong sense of belonging that continues today.

As the community around us has changed, so too has our school. Over the years, new learning spaces, playgrounds and facilities have been developed to support contemporary teaching and learning while maintaining the warmth and character that make Richmond Primary School unique. The original school building still stands proudly on our grounds and continues to be used by students and the wider school community.

Richmond Primary School reflects the rich diversity of Adelaide’s western suburbs and values the many cultural backgrounds, languages and experiences that families bring to our community. This diversity is one of our greatest strengths and helps create a respectful, caring and connected learning environment where every child is known and valued.

Today, our school continues to build on its proud history by providing engaging learning opportunities, modern learning environments and strong partnerships with families. While much has changed since 1898, our commitment to supporting students to learn, belong and thrive remains at the heart of everything we do.
